One Year On: Remembering Richard Rattue, Founder and Visionary Leader of Compli-Serve
9 June 2025
Today marks one year since the sudden passing of Richard Rattue, Founder and Managing Director of Compli-Serve. On this day, we pause to reflect on his extraordinary legacy — not just as a compliance pioneer, but as a mentor, leader, and friend to so many across the industry.
Richard established Compli-Serve in 2003 with a clear mission: to raise the bar for regulatory compliance in South Africa’s financial services sector. From a modest start with four clients and a monthly billing total of just R5,800, he grew the business into a national compliance partner serving hundreds of firms across the country. His vision, passion, and uncompromising standards laid the foundation for everything Compli-Serve stands for today.
But Richard’s impact went far beyond compliance frameworks and regulatory updates. He mentored young professionals, challenged industry norms, and cultivated a culture of ethics and excellence within our team. Those who worked with him will remember his wisdom, his humour, and yes — his tendency to rattle his keys while making a point.
He was more than a founder. He was a father figure to many of us. A friend who encouraged growth, even in disagreement. And a man whose favourite sign-offs — “Cool Beans” or “Have a good one” — could disarm the tensest moment with a smile.
Richard is survived by his wife Philippa and his daughters Siobhan, Keira, and Gemma — who remain in our thoughts today. We honour the values he instilled in us and the legacy he left behind, not only as professionals, but as people.
